Rescue Horses

PMU stands for Pregnant Mare Urine.  Estrogens extracted from pregnant mare urine (PMU) are used in the production of Premarin, a hormone replacement drug/therapy used for the treatment of post-menopausal women.  Thousands of mares are bred each year such that their estrogen rich urine can be collected, and unfortunately each fall at least 30% of these healthy, quality PMU foals end up in feed lots in Canada and the US, ultimately going to slaughter.
PMU Foal Adoption Network, Inc.
Is a volunteer non-profit foal placement group dedicated to minimizing the number of PMU foals that end up at slaughter by facilitating the adoption of these foals into good, loving homes.  We are not animal rights activists. Our stance on educating women is this: each woman who is a candidate for estrogen replacement therapy should familiarize herself with the treatment options available to her, of which Premarin is one, and she should make an informed decision — with the assistance of her physician — as to which treatment option is best for her. We cannot and will not presume to pressure a woman to make a particular choice, and we are aware that for many women, Premarin is the only viable treatment option.

Prism PMU Foals
Prism is a non profit horse service and rescue. We do not ask the farmers for money nor do we take a portion of the horses purchase price. We generate funds to run this website and group from our $25 Prism fee. It is supposed to cover the cost of the website, taxes, mailing expenses, ink, paper, long distance, etc. So far though, one of Prism's founders has covered all these costs. That has enabled us to reduce prices on horses (those posted the longest). We have had a 'sale' (this was also helped by Drawing money) which helped over a dozen horses by taking $100 off of their price to help adopters. It's a small amount but it adds up quickly and has helped so many horses.

FoalQuest
Is a volunteer-run organization that is based in Alberta, Canada.
Our mission is two fold.....
1. The most important reason FoalQuest came to exist was the desire to help find homes for foals from PMU farms - foals that otherwise could have ended up in feedlots.
2. Our other goal is to educate people about the PMU industry and to dispel the many myths surrounding the ranches where these foals are born and bred.

Rocky Mountain Foal Rescue
We attend many of the local horse auctions and work with other rescue groups across the US and Canada where foals of the PMU industry are sold.  Most of these  foals are sold to killer/buyers that purchase them for meat to be sold to foreign markets.  We make every attempt to purchase foals before killer/buyers have the opportunity to buy them.

MLJ Horse Barn
We are new to the PMU line, but we have dedicated ourselves to the horses and love our job regarding them. We also are dedicated to finding good, rightful homes for our babies! And this is the reason for the website provided here. We desparately try to find homes for all our babies without the help of the auction or  the feedlot buyers. So please sit back and use your mouse and find a horse to  bring home off our website. We know you will be happy with the Johnson Horse Barn animals.

Spring Hill Horse Rescue
Our 3rd Annual Premarin Foal Rescue Mission was a success with 80 foals, over twice as many as our first year! Many of the foals went to pre-registered adopters through-out the East Coast; Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maryland, Ohio, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut, the others were sponsor and fundraiser foals. These babies were absolutely breathtakingly beautiful ranging from flashy sorrels, buckskins and palomino’s to vividly marked black & white and red & white Paints.
